This program is designed to teach practical management skills to professionals, working within a technology-based environment, who have recently been promoted to management or wish to move into management positions. Students first receive an overview of the strategic context in which management decisions in such an environment are made, with an examination of investment dynamics, the role of innovation, and life cycle concepts. They then learn the specific applied skills of providing leadership to teams and managing projects in a technology-based workplace. The program is case-based, using cases drawn from many different technology settings to demonstrate the practical application of management principles and skills discussed in class. Students are also asked to present cases and challenges from their own varied technical work settings for class discussion and analysis.
Professionals in electronics, computer hardware and software, telecommunications, engineering and biomedical product development benefit from this program, as well as individuals preparing for management roles in technology research and technology-intensive services.
