Are you an aspiring dance or movement instructor? Would you like to open your own professional dance studio or launch a dance or movement program? Enhance your understanding of dance teaching methods and the anatomical and somatic practices necessary for effective teaching with this program, sponsored by the UW Dance Program. In addition, you will examine classroom dynamics, create lesson plans and explore careers in dance instruction. Site visits may be included.
Is This Program Right for You?
This program provides professional development for dance and movement instructors working in the private professional dance sector, with either children or adults, and K-12 settings. Elementary, arts, and physical education instructors in the schools and in community organizations, who have some dance background, will also become more competent to teach dance to both children and adults. The program offers nine 400-level college credits, which may be applied toward degree completion at the UW.
