Autumn Courses

Introduction to 3D Max

Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., Oct. 5-Dec. 7, 2009; $705; 3 CEUs; drop-in lab hours are also available on Saturday afternoons.

Instructor: Jason MacCoy

Provides an intensive introduction to core topics in 3D modeling, texture mapping and using 3D Studio Max. Topics:

  • Introduction to Zbrush
  • Modeling
  • Texturing
  • Basic lighting
  • Cameras
  • Game intro

Introduction to 3D AnimationClass is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Schedule: (10 sessions) Wednesdays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., Oct. 7-Dec. 16, 2009; $705; 3 CEUs; drop-in lab hours are also available on Saturday afternoons.

Instructor: Jason MacCoy

Provides an intensive introduction to core topics in animation using 3D Studio Max. The information in this class will provide a broad foundation for creating character animation and in game movies. Topics:

  • Hierarchies
  • Linking
  • Path and link controllers
  • Velocity curves
  • Curve editor
  • Intro to character studio
  • Animation fundamentals

Character Design and 3D ModelingClass is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., Jan. 4-March 22, 2010 (no class Jan. 18 and Feb. 15); $705; 3 CEUs; drop-in lab hours are also available on Saturday afternoons.

Provides an introduction to character design and 3D modeling of the human form. This class will cover the process of taking the character from concept to creation. Topics:

  • Zbrush basics
  • Character design and planning
  • Modeling techniques for characters
  • UV mapping techniques for characters
  • Physique and skinning
  • Weighting vertices

Instructor: Tito Pagan

Provides an intensive introduction to core topics in animation using 3D Studio Max. This class will also cover how to apply principals of 2D animation into the 3D characters. Topics:

  • Character animation
  • Walk cycles
  • Picking up objects
  • Planting feet
  • Game play actions

Spring Courses

Project Planning, Storyboarding, Environmental Storytelling

Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., March 29-June 7, 2010 (no class May 31); $705; 3 CEUs; drop in labs are also available on Saturday Afternoons.

Instructor: Jason MacCoy

Students learn the techniques necessary to take an animation project successfully through the entire production process. They apply what they are learning in 3D Studio Max and plan a short (30-second) animation project that is produced in the Game Animation Project course at the end of the program. Students learn:

  • Project planning
  • Environmental storytelling
  • Advanced lighting techniques
  • Storyboarding
  • Pre-production
  • Production pipeline development

Advanced Character Animation

Schedule: (10 sessions) Wednesdays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., March 31-June 2, 2010; $705; 3 CEUs; drop in lab hours are also available Saturday afternoons.

Instructor: Tito Pagan

The advanced animation class will give students time to create high-quality animations, showing life and vitality. We will also study the works of industry leaders like, Pixar, Disney and PDI. The advanced animation class will provide the necessary time to develop the skills needed to work as a professional animator for games or feature-length films. Students learn about:

  • Facial animation
  • Complex compound animations
  • Animating emotion
  • Interacting with objects
  • Animating to speech
