Please note that this program spans five quarters total. Classes meet for four hours per week over five academic terms: Winter 2010, Spring 2010, Autumn 2010, Winter 2011 and Spring 2011.

Each quarter your class will meet twice per week: for one evening, you will meet virtually, facilitated by the latest technologies for online, synchronous learning. On the second night each week, your class will meet at the UW Educational Outreach facilities in downtown Seattle.

Interested in taking a single class? Some courses (designated by a Class is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis below) may be open on a space-available basis to professionals who are not seeking the certificate. Autumn Course

General Pharmaceutics I Class is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Pharmaceutics I and II will focus on current topics in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, particularly the transformation of small molecules, proteins, and genes into therapeutic products. The course presents overview of the key processes and departments fundamental to the effective development of products at large and small pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Included is an overview of drug design, current tools for drug therapy research and development, molecular modeling, high throughput screening, production and stability considerations, and delivery systems.

Winter Courses

Molecular and Cellular Biology I Class is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Molecular and Cellular Biology I and II introduce the fundamental molecular processes that occur in living organisms. The seminars emphasize the structure and organization of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, DNA replication, gene expression and regulation, protein biochemistry, signal transduction, and the extracellular matrix. Experimental techniques used to study the topics under discussion are emphasized with particular reference to the development of pharmaceuticals. Case studies illustrate the important concepts and show how breakdown in the proper functioning of these systems may lead to human disease.

Statistics and Experimental Design Class is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Biostatistical concepts necessary for the interpretation, evaluation, and communication of biomedical research are introduced. Course topics include an introduction to biostatistics and statistical methods, design of experiment (DOE) as a discipline, and the use of statistics in clinical trial design and analysis.
